Sgt. 1st Class Jessie Lopez

Sgt. 1st Class Jessie Lopez was born in Los Angeles, California. He joined the U.S. Army in 1996 as a senior in high school under the Delayed Entry Program; after graduating from South Gate High School in 1997, he attended Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Benning, GA. He has an Associate’s Degree in Science from Excelsior University and currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from Post University.

Sgt. 1st Class Lopez assignments have range from every enlisted position for an Infantryman from Rifleman to Platoon Sergeant. His first duty assignment was from 1997-2000 at Ft. Stewart, GA with the 3rd Infantry Division where he served as a Rifleman, Bradley driver and Bradley gunner. Sgt. 1st Class Lopez’s second duty assignment was from 2000-2002 at Ft. Carson, CO with the 4th Infantry Division where he served as a Bradley gunner and Rifle Team Leader. From 2002-2003, he served in the Republic of Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division assigned as a Bradley gunner and Bradley section leader. His following assignment from 2003-2005, he served in Ft. Hood, TX with the 1st Cavalry Division as a Bradley section leader, while assigned with the 1st Cavalry Division, he deployed to Iraq in 2004-2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. SFC Lopez served as a Drill Sergeant and Senior Drill Sergeant at his following assignment at Ft. Benning, GA from 2005-2008. His next assignment was from 2008-2010 with the 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, KS; where he served as a Platoon Sergeant for a Heavy Weapons Infantry Platoon and deployed on his second tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2009-2010. Currently Sgt. 1st Class Lopez is the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of Aberdeen Test Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

His military education includes the Bradley Master Gunner School (Commandant’s List); Army National Guard Pre-Master Gunner Course (Warrior Training Center); Drill Sergeant School; Airborne School; Equal Opportunity Advisor and Representative Course; Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below Course; Army Retention Course; Battle Staff Phase 1; Primary Leadership Development Course; Basic Non-Commissioned Officer’s Course; Maneuver Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer’s Course; Modern Army Combatives Course Level 1; Driver Examiner Course.

Sgt. 1st Class Lopez awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medal(1st Oak Leaf Cluster and one w/ “V” device); Army Commendation Medal(1st Silver Oak Leaf Cluster); Army Achievement Medal(4th Oak Leaf Cluster); Good Conduct Medal(5th Award); National Defense Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal(1 Bronze Star); Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal; Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 3; Expert Infantryman’s Badge; Combat Infantryman’s Badge; Drill Sergeant Identification Badge and the Basic Parachutist Badge.

Lopez’ significant accomplishments include being the first Soldier in Army Test Evaluation Command to graduate from the Bradley Master Gunner Course in 2012; inducted into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club in 2009; a recipient of the National Infantryman’s Association- Order of the Saint Maurice in 2007; Drill Sergeant of the Cycle in 2007.

Sgt. 1st Class Lopez combat tours include two tours to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004-2005 (Sadr City) and 2009-2010 (Balad).


Sgt. 1st Class Jessie Lopez assumed the responsibilities as senior non commissioned officer of the U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center on August 10, 2011.
